About the Broadcast
Cosmo Radio FX — Fictional Broadcast Exchange is an independent fictional radio project built around the idea of a strange American broadcast that seems to have slipped out of the early 1960s and into the present day.
The station broadcasts from the fictional town of Port Juniper, Connecticut, with Studio A located in the Harbor Exchange Building. Its world is populated by radio hosts, reporters, meteorologists, musicians, record labels, companies, advertisements, public notices and incidents that belong to the fiction unless clearly stated otherwise.
At its centre is a simple formula: comedy on the surface, mystery underneath, radio in form. Episodes combine music, studio conversation, field reports, peculiar advertisements, weather, listener material and slowly developing mysteries while trying to preserve the rhythm and warmth of period broadcasting.
A Love Letter to Mid-Century Radio
Cosmo Radio FX draws heavily on the sound, graphic design, popular culture and broadcasting language of the 1950s and early 1960s. The aim is not to reproduce one historical station, artist or programme, but to build an original fictional universe that feels as though it might once have existed somewhere just off the dial.
That period inspiration shapes the writing, pacing, advertisements, record sleeves, typography, fictional brands and on-air personalities. Historical flavour is researched and then adapted freely where the fictional world needs to take a different turn.
How It Is Made
Cosmo Radio FX is a human-led creative project. Generative AI is part of the production toolkit, but it is only one part of a much larger process of writing, selection, direction, editing and post-production.
Writing & Worldbuilding
Premises, characters, recurring lore, episode structure, jokes, fictional history and the larger mystery are developed, revised and curated as one continuous fictional world.
Music & Records
Original song concepts and lyrics are developed for the station's fictional catalogue, then generated, selected, reworked, edited and mastered as part of the finished production.
Voices & Performance
The programme combines human performance with synthetic voices created for fictional characters. Dialogue is directed and edited to fit each character and the period broadcast style.
Audio & Visual Production
Episodes, artwork, archive material, record sleeves and promotional pieces are assembled and refined through conventional digital editing alongside generative tools.
Every published piece is selected and shaped deliberately. Generated material may be rejected, rewritten, cut, rearranged or extensively edited before it becomes part of Cosmo Radio FX. The final creative and editorial decisions remain human.
Production Tools
Cosmo Radio FX is produced using a combination of traditional digital production tools and generative AI services. Depending on the production, these may include tools for writing and research, voice synthesis, music generation, image creation, audio editing, video editing and graphic design. Tools used in the production process currently include OpenAI, Suno, ElevenLabs, Audacity, Kdenlive, GIMP, Obsidian and other supporting software.
These tools assist different stages of production. Creative direction, worldbuilding, story development, selection, editing, arrangement and final production decisions remain part of the human-led creative process.
Fiction & Reality
Cosmo Radio FX is fiction. Port Juniper, its broadcasts and the majority of people, organisations, products, records and events presented within the programme are fictional unless a real-world reference is explicitly identified. Any resemblance to real persons or organisations may be coincidental, satirical, referential or part of the period setting.
The project may occasionally draw on real history, culture, technology or public events as inspiration. Where that happens, the fictional presentation should not be read as a documentary account.
